Why Is It Important To Study The Bible?
Why Is It Important To Study The Bible?
"One remarkable and encouraging hallmark of our times is, a renewed concern and interest in the study of the Bible as the Word of God. In light of today?s fears and tensions, and the unparalleled advances of modern technology, mankind has been reawakened to the eternal relevance of Spiritual Truth."
"Reading the Bible on a daily basis can be a rich and rewarding experience. Many people turn to their Bibles for the answers to everyday questions.... when depressed, worried, fearful, or having anxieties over loved ones. Whatever your problems, the Bible has the answers that make day-to-day life easier.
But the Bible is more than a consolation in times of trouble or need. It is a whole library of inspiring, helpful, practical and enjoyable stories; The Bible truly is the inspired Word of God, a book of understanding, of principles. A book of Spiritual Laws, a book that will guide you towards a more positive attitude about your family, your friends and neighbors, and your own daily troubles and needs."
Where to Start...
START WITH THE GOSPEL OF JOHN, OR ROMANS.
Study the New Testament, and then the Old Testament. Stay with the Central Themes of the New Testament. Don't get sidetracked on side issues, or bogged down in "Science and the Bible". The Bible is not a book of Science.
SEE THE BIBLE AS A WHOLE. Think about "what is this book about?" It is a trustworthy, and reliable guide for Christian Teaching and Living.
The first five books The law shows us God's ideal of what man ought to be. The Historical Books, Joshua thru Ester, show us man's failure to meet God's ideal. The Poetic Books, Job thru the Song of Solomon, show us man reaching up to God. The Prophets, Isaiah thru Malachi, promises the coming of a Savior, who will redeem all men. The Gospels are the life of Jesus Christ, the promised Savior, who has come. The Acts tell of the early history of the Church, as believers live in the power of the Holy Ghost. The Letters, Romans thru Jude, instruct Christians for Christlike living, and practice. The Revelation tells of the final victory of Jesus Christ, the Lord of history.
USE COMMON SENSE IN INTERPRETING THE BIBLE. There is a reality behind all the figures of the Bible. Christ's coming on a white horse, is a picture of the living Christ as victor over death, hell, and the grave.
SHARE WITH OTHERS YOUR INSIGHTS ABOUT CHRIST, THE GOSPEL, AND THE LOVE OF GOD THAT YOU GAIN FROM BIBLE STUDY. The Bible is all about news that is too good to keep. The Bible does not make men right with God, but points us to Jesus Christ, who does.
